The Best Books on Happiness and Positivity and Creating Your Own Success
If you’re looking for the best books on happiness and positivity to help boost your life, motherhood and work relationships and experiences, you’re in the right place. Coming from a working mom of 3, I understand where you’re at (and where you’ve been).
I’ve been through all the phases…
- The one where it feels like something’s missing in your life.
- The “I hate myself for feeling so lousy. Shouldn’t I be happier? I love my kids.”
- The “I just want to be successful. Why am I the one who has to do everything for the kids? When can I focus on my career?”
- Oh, and the “I feel like I’m drowning in work! I feel so unappreciated. I’d rather be at home with my kids.”
- I’ve even had the “living the high life. Everything is beautiful. I love my family. I’m the happiest person alive moment.”
Life can throw some doozies at ya, but only you can choose how you come out on the other side. It’s easy to let life get you down. And your brain wants to protect you, so it’s natural for it to focus on the negative things – the bad things – that it thinks might cause you harm.
So what’s the answer to positivity, happiness and success?
The key is to learn from those before you. There is no magic secret. There is only you learning how to focus on the positive and see and acknowledge all the good things in your life.
You might be wondering:
- What is the best book on how to be happy?
- What is the best book to read for positive thinking?
- What are the most life changing books to read?
- Or even, how can I be happy all the time?
Well, for me, the list is below. And I’m sure these books on happiness and positivity will resonate with you as well.
These inspiring books will give you a completely different outlook on life!
If you’re like me and have a work commute, Audible is a great way to get some reading in (without actually reading, lol). You can actually get a FREE Trial of Audible Premium Plus here. I highly recommend it.

Author, Gretchen Rubin, had an epiphany one rainy afternoon in the unlikeliest of places: a city bus. “The days are long, but the years are short,” she realized. “Time is passing, and I’m not focusing enough on the things that really matter.” In that moment, she decided to dedicate a year to her happiness project.
Want to know what she found to be her keys to happiness and how to let go of the rest? Check it out here…

This book is offers exactly what the title suggests. The idea of the book is to help readers understand what suits their own lives best to help them reframe it in a useful manner, subtracting worry from it and how they could focus on living each day with joy and contentment.
Rachel is real and talks about real issues. More than that, she reveals the specific practical strategies that helped her move past them. In the process, she encourages, entertains, and even kicks a little butt, all to convince you to do whatever it takes to get real and become the joyous, confident woman you were meant to be. Because you really can live with passion and hustle – and give yourself grace without giving up.
Rachel Hollis has seen it too often: Women not living into their full potential. They feel a tugging on their hearts for something more, but they’re afraid of embarrassment, of falling short of perfection, of not being enough.
I love reading her books. They’re true and full of inspiration and understanding. So relatable.
Amazon Review: I originally got You Do You because it was on sale and I thought I had read her first book, The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F***. (It turns out that I had actually read Mark Manson’s The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*, which is also good, but now I’m going to have to read Sarah Knight’s book, since I enjoyed this one so much.)
This book was hilarious. If you’re offended by foul language, you might want to skip it. I certainly wouldn’t read it aloud at work, but I found it hilarious. She also gave a lot of really good, useful advice, while making it fun to read. I learned a lot and was reminded of things that I already knew. She’s vulnerable and shares her experiences, which made me feel heard and less alone.
I highly recommend it. It’s a fun read. I’ll let you know how her other books are when I get to them, too.
Do you feel lost? Like something is missing from your life? Maybe your discontent but don’t want to admit it, so you just keep pushing through. If this is you, this book is a must read.

The Success Principles was my very first “self-improvement” book to ever read. Life changing. Once I read this book, it lit a fire in me. I wanted to read them all. Jack Canfield does an awesome job breaking ideas down and providing real-life examples to show you a different viewpoint – a new way of looking at life, your goals and dreams.
Fascinating, hopeful, and timely, The Happiness Advantage reveals how small shifts in our mindset and habits can produce big gains at work, at home, in parenting and elsewhere.
