Are you waking up tired after 8 hours of sleep? Are you tired all day then wide awake at night? Maybe you have morning fatigue and feel too tired to even get out of bed.

If any of this sounds familiar, please know you’re not alone.

I used to feel the same way.

Tired. Crashing after lunch hour. Consuming tons of caffeine to get me through the day.

I don’t want that to be you. I know you’re struggling. And it sucks!

And that’s why I’m going to teach you how to wake up early and not feel tired all day.

When you have responsibilities that require you to wake up early, or goals that you want to accomplish or when 5 a.m. is the only time you can find a little “me time,” it helps to be a morning person.

However, being an “early riser” is a learned skill for most of us.

But with a few tweaks to your daily habits, you can be waking up early and feeling energized in no time.

How to Wake Up Early and Not Feel Tired

It’s an uneasy feeling waking up tired when you know you have to get up.

These tips to get up early without being tired are going to help you realize what you’ve been doing wrong all this time.

So let’s dive in.

Strive for Restful Sleep

It’s one thing to go to bed at 8 or 9 p.m. But if you’re not actually resting while you’re in bed, it’s doing you no good.

Your body needs restful sleep in order for you to wake up feeling refreshed.

Try these tips to help you get your best nights sleep:

  • Avoid caffeine close to bedtime
  • Keep electronics out of the bedroom
  • Make your room as relaxing as possible
  • Practice meditation to help you relax

One last tip for getting a restful nights sleep is to evaluate the condition of your mattress.

I use to have such trouble with being restless throughout the night. It’s like I could never get comfortable.

That’s when I started thinking “maybe it’s the mattress.”

I couldn’t even remember when we purchased it.

There is a good chance that it had been longer than the recommended 8 year replacement period.

So my husband and I went mattress shopping. And I’m so glad we did.

Changing out our mattress was the best thing we ever did.

Plan Your Morning the Night Before

You might think this tip is a little off topic, but let me explain.

When you go to bed already stressing about tomorrow, your mind is just going to keep thinking and reeling about what has to be done.

By planning out your morning, you are taking a few more things off your mind.

Also, when you wake up knowing exactly what you’re going to do and which order to do it in, you will most likely avoid hitting the snooze button that third time.

You will wake up with a clear picture of what needs to be done, and it will keep your morning from being so chaotic.

Practice Better Eating Habits

Food fuels the body, right?

Those carbs and all that sugar might give you a boost when you’re feeling tired.

But the crash you feel when the rush wears off, will make you feel much worse than you did before.

Take it from me, it’s not worth it.

I used to skip breakfast, then overeat at lunch.

After lunch I would feel miserable and tired. I would consume caffeine and crave sugar.

By the time I would get home from work, I felt like I was starving. So I’d binge eat before I could even get dinner ready.

The cycle would repeat every day which made me feel worse about myself.

This doesn’t have to be you. I learned how to make better choices and implement better eating habits to give me energy throughout the day.

Eating Habits To Keep You Energized Throughout the Day:

  • Don’t skip breakfast
  • Eat a protein rich breakfast
  • Keep healthy snack options with you
  • Eat dinner at least 2 hours before bedtime
  • Meal plan and meal prep your dinner menu

Stay Hydrated

There are a few reasons staying hydrated is important.

  1. When you’re not properly hydrated, your body will trick you into thinking you’re hungry. Which will lead you to overeating.
  2. Staying hydrated keeps your skin clearer and cleanses your body of impurities.
  3. Proper hydration keeps your joints lubricated and prevents infection.

But the most important reason here to stay hydrated is:

Staying well-hydrated improves sleep quality and keeps your body fueled throughout the day.

Shower in the Morning

Showering in the morning helps wake you up and gives you time to get your thoughts together for the day.

It awakens your senses.

Some might suggest a cold shower, but I think that’s being cruel to yourself.

Instead that a lukewarm shower to get your morning routine going.

Focus on Your “Why”

What is your reason for waking up early in the morning?

Maybe you’ve got a new job that starts earlier. Or maybe you want to focus on a fun project you’re working on.

For me, waking up early is important so I can focus on my personal projects and practice self-care.

It gives me time to sip my coffee and meditate before the kids wake up and things get wild.

Whatever your reason is for waking up early, focus on the benefits you’re getting out of waking up early. How is it benefiting you?

Practice Gratitude

Practicing gratitude requires you to be more aware. More aware of the good, happy things in your life.

And when you’re happy and have a great attitude about life and your reason why, things become easier for you.

Even waking up early.

What’s worked for me:

Writing in my daily gratitude journal has helped me tremendously. This is one of the things I do in my early morning time.

I enjoy it. It makes me happy and keeps my thoughts focused on the good things in my life, so I remain positive.

Avoid Being Sedentary

If you’re like me, your job requires you to sit the majority of your work day.

Some might think sitting all day doesn’t require you to use much energy.

Why would you be tired after just sitting?

The thing is sitting in front of a screen all day causes mental fatigue. And mental fatigue often makes you feel physically exhausted.

After sitting for a long period of time your blood starts to flow slower.

It’s like telling your body it’s time for sleep.

So, do your best to stay active as much as possible during the day.

Try these tips to keep you moving throughout the day and prevent tiredness:

  • Take regular breaks from your work
  • Go for a walk during your lunch hour
  • Exercise before work to get the blood pumping
  • Start an exercise routine to keep you active every day
  • Try exercises you can do while sitting

My Fitbit has been a great tool to keep me active throughout the day.

Every hour at the 10 minutes til mark, it reminds me to get up and move if I haven’t reached 250 steps for the hour.

It’s like a mini pep talk.
